Fresno State baseball: Guibor, Viers power Bulldogs to victory

Austin Guibor hit two home runs and Kevin Viers homered, too, as Fresno State downed Sacramento State 7-5 in a nonconference game Wednesday night at Beiden Field.

The left-handed hitting Guibor entered the game with one home run in 103 at-bats this season.

Viers took advantage of a second straight start and finished 2 for 4 while launching his second homer. On Tuesday, Viers was 3 for 5 with an RBI in a 15-6 loss at Pacific.

Freshman Kenny Varnell (1-0) made his first career start, with Fresno State (21-9) playing back-to-back midweek nonconference games. The lefty allowed three runs to the Hornets (17-11) on six hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings.

Rickey Ramirez and Tim Borst followed before Dylan Lee pitched the ninth for the save.
