Fresno State’s Jimmy Lambert was named Mountain West pitcher of the week, the league announced Monday.

Lambert, a right-handed junior, threw a shutout in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader sweep against Youngstown State. Lambert gave up just three singles to the Penguins, to go with five strikeouts and zero walks in the Bulldogs’ 11-0 win.

He notched seven 1-2-3 innings that game, and faced two batters over the minimum of 27 in 94 pitches.

It’s the first weekly honor for Lambert and second in a row for a Bulldogs’ pitcher as sophomore starting pitcher Anthony Arias won the award last week, the first award of the season.

Fresno State (8-0), off to its best start since 1975, returns to action on Tuesday hosting Cal State Bakersfield (4-2) at 6:05 p.m. at Beiden Field.
