Fresno State golf team finishes second at Watney Invitational

Four Fresno State players shot rounds below par as the Bulldogs men’s golf team charged into second place after the final round of the Nick Watney Invitational golf tournament Tuesday at Fort Washington Country Club.

Fresno State concluded the 54-hole tournament at 833 strokes, eight behind champion St. Mary’s. The Bulldogs were fourth after the first two rounds Monday.

Trevor Clayton led Fresno State, shooing 3-under 68 Tuesday en route to placing fifth individually at 9-under 204.

Cody Riecks (69), Justin Avery (68) and Troix Tonkham (68) also shot under par during the final round for the Bulldogs. Ricks and Avery tied for 10th at 209, while Tonkham tied for 28th at 213.

St. Mary’s Pavan Sagoo was the individual medalist after shooting a third-round 6-under 65 to finish at 16-under 197. Sagoo was four shots better than second-place Alex Chiarella of San Diego (201) and five ahead of Patrick Fishburn of Brigham Young (202).
