Bulldog ace tied for fourth at Nick Watney Invitational

Fresno State’s Trevor Clayton shot 6-under 136 to sit tied for fourth place after the first two rounds of the second annual Nick Watney Invitational golf tournament Monday at Fort Washington Country Club.

Clayton opened with a 1-under 70 and then fired a 5-under 66 in the second round, his 136 total tied with Cal’s Collin Morikawa (67-69).

Clayton and Morikawa trail tournament leader Pavan Sagoo of St. Mary’s (68-64–132) by four strokes entering Tuesday’s final round. Sagoo helped the Gaels take the team lead at 553, one stroke better than Cal and three ahead of Sacramento State

San Diego’s Alex Chiarella and Brigham Young’s Patrick Fishburn are second at 9-under 133.

The Bulldogs, who sit fourth as a team with 560 strokes, also have top 20 contenders in Cody Riecks (tied for 13th at 2-under 140) and Justin Avery (tied for 20th at 1-under 141).
