Bulldogs get swept in crucial Mountain West showdown, dropping to second place
The Fresno State volleyball team fell out of first place in the Mountain West after getting swept Saturday at Colorado State.
The Bulldogs dropped a close opening set then never recovered, falling 25-23, 25-13, 25-17 as their five-game win streak came to an end. The Bulldogs hadn’t been swept since falling to UC Irvine on Sept. 14 during nonconference play.
Fresno State (17-7, 9-2) dropped to second place in the Mountain West by a half game all while Colorado State (18-6, 10-2) moved to the top. The Rams have won seven straight and lost just one set during that stretch.
The teams split the regular season series at 1-1.
The conference championship, however, still remains up for grabs with seven games remaining on the Bulldogs’ schedule and six for the Rams.
Taylor Slover led Fresno State with 12 kills. Teammate Aubrey Folk added nine kills.
Fresno State setter Madelyn Halteman was held to 23 assists.
The Bulldogs posted a .043 hitting efficiency compared to the Rams’ .323 mark. Fresno State’s efficiency for the season is .234.
