Fresno State women’s rugby club wins conference title

The Fresno State women’s rugby club has repeated as conference champions.

The Bulldogs defeated Santa Clara University 64-29 Saturday in Vallejo to capture the USA West Coast Rugby Conference’s Division II trophy.

Jenna Balestra scored five tries for the Bulldogs and was named match MVP. Moriah Halteman and Jasmine Roberson each added two tries apiece and Raquel Macias had one. Cady Riley led the Bulldogs in conversions, making 7 of 10 attempts.

Fresno State went 7-0 in conference play and advance to the USA Rugby Spring Championships starting with next month’s Sweet 16 Regional held at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington.

Bulldogs take third at home golf tourney – The Fresno State Classic, the Bulldogs women’s home tournament, came to a close Tuesday as Nevada won the team title at San Joaquin Country Club.

The Bulldogs finished in a three-way tie for second alongside Cal Poly and UC Riverside, each two strokes behind the Wolf Pack (27-over 891).

Cal State Fullerton’s Martina Edberg won the individual title at 4-under 212. Mimi Ho was the Bulldogs’ top finisher, shooting a 3-under in the final round to finish third at an even-par 216.
