Fresno Fuego blank San Francisco to end regular season
The Fresno Fuego blanked San Francisco City FC 2-0 on Sunday to end the Premier Development League regular season at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco.
Nick Moon opened the scoring with his first goal of the season in the 18th minute and Alvaro Nogales doubled the lead in the 75th. It was Nogales’ fifth goal of the season and third in four matches. Defensively, the Fuego and goalie Agustin Rey recorded their seventh clean sheet of the season.
Fresno (10-3-1), which secured its Central Pacific Division crown last weekend, will play second-place Burlingame FC in the first round of the playoffs. Match details have yet to be announced.
Freeze season finale – Earlier in the afternoon, the Fresno Freeze drew 1-1 against the San Francisco Nighthawks in their Women’s Premier Soccer League season finale. Britney Quiroz put Fresno ahead in the 29th minute before the Nighthawks equalized in the first minute of the second half.
The Freeze remained unbeaten in two road matches this weekend, with a 4-1 win against North Bay Wave on Saturday. Fresno ends its regular season with a 7-1-2 record and 23 points in the NorCal Division standings.
Fresno also took home the Pacheco Clasico Cup, winning the season-long points-based competition involving both the men’s and women’s clubs (Fuego-SF City FC, Freeze-Nighthawks).
