Olympic trials: Bullard High grad Nate Moses into discus final

Former Bullard High and Fresno City College athlete Nate Moses is one step closer to representing the United States in Rio, advancing to the men’s discus final after placing seventh in Thursday’s qualifying round at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Moses, who was the 2014 NAIA national champion discus thrower in his senior year at Concordia University, had his best result of 196 feet, 5 inches, on his third attempt.

Kansas graduate Mason Finley had the best throw of qualifying at 218-11. The top 12 competitors in the 24-man field moved on to Friday’s final round, set for 3:30 p.m.

The top three throwers after finals will make the U.S. Olympic team.
