Amateur boxing: Fresno’s Marc Castro takes gold at national championship
Fresno amateur boxer Marc Castro added more gold to his collection.
Castro won by decision over Angel Alejandro of Grand Prairie, Texas, to take gold in the 123-pound division of the Youth Open Championships Saturday in Dallas. Two other national championship tournaments – the Junior Olympic and Prep National – also took place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.
Castro, who won four bouts during the week, has 13 national championships and is 109-6 overall with 28 TKOs.
Also at the tournament, Aleman Boxing of Fresno had several placers: Bebe Flores, gold (13-14, 101); Jett Blackwell, silver (15-16, 176+); America Berber, silver (13-14, 125); Juan Gonzalez, silver (11-12, 106); Maria Ruiz, fifth (13-14, 106).
