Local motor sports: Kyle Tellstrom gets job done at Madera Speedway

Kyle Tellstrom scored his second straight Lucas Oil Modifieds Series victory at Madera Speedway on Saturday night.

Tellstrom, 20, from Boise, Idaho, passed pole-sitter Scott Winters on lap 18 and led to the finish of the 75-lap race on the third-mile paved oval. Tellstrom assumed the points lead halfway through the 10-race season on tracks around the West.

Linny White of Colton finished second, the same spot he held behind Tellstrom when the series last stopped at Madera, last October.

Winters, of Tracy, was third. Elliot Stjerne of Madera was 11th and Eric Hamilton of Hanford 16th in the 26-car field.

Bryan Warf of Meridian, Idaho, won the 30-lap Madera Winged Sprints feature. Warf started third and got the lead on lap 3. Dylan Noble of Clovis moved up from fourth to second by lap 17 and began to reel in Warf but finished runner-up by less than three-tenths of a second.

Cody Gerhardt of Madera was third.

Jason Philpot of Roseville started ninth, took the lead at the halfway point and won the North State Modified Series 60-lap main event.

Sisters Toni and Annie Breidinger of Hillsborough finished 1-2 in the 30-lap U.S. Auto Club HPD Midgets feature.

Kings Speedway – Cory Eliason of Kingsburg scored his second straight King of Kings 360 sprint car feature during Kings County Fair night Friday at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford.

Eliason started second but was passed on the first lap by Hanford’s DJ Netto. Polesitter Giovanni Scelzi of Fresno led the first eight laps before Netto got past. Eliason passed Scelzi for second on lap 11 and got past Netto on lap 17, leading the rest of the 30-lap main event.

Netto, Scelzi, Mitchell Faccinto of Hanford and Steven Tiner of Rio Linda rounded out the top five.

Other feature winners were Blake Robertson of Hanford (RaceSaver 305 sprint cars), Roger Holder (Modifieds) and Steven Johnson (Stocks).

Et Cetera – Richard Vander Weerd of Visalia led all 30 laps Saturday night to win the USAC/California Racing Association 410 sprint car race in Perris.

Jace Vander Weerd finished 19th.

▪ Kody Swanson of Kingsburg finished third Saturday night in the 100-lap USAC Silver Crown national race at Williams Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania. Swanson maintained his series points lead with the next stop June 25 near St. Louis.
