JC baseball playoffs: Reedley wins NorCal opener
After not appearing in the NorCal playoffs for 53 years, Reedley College decided Tuesday that it would stick around for a while.
Sawyer Pittman hit a run-scoring double in the third inning to tie it 1-1 and he eventually scored when Alan Crowley was hit by pitch with the bases loaded as the 16th-seeded Tigers defeated No. 17 Feather River 3-1 in a North Regional single-elimination wild-card game. Tigers starter Evan Sagariballa pitched a four-hitter, only allowing a walk and had four strikeouts.
“Feels awesome,” Crowley said. “We played great on defense and had a great overall team win.”
Reedley added an insurance run in the fifth on DeA’ndre Smith’s RBI single.
The Tigers (25-12) advance to play at top-seeded Santa Rosa in a best-of-three series that opens Friday. The Bear Cubs (29-6) were champions in the Big 8.
Feather River finishes 24-13.
