Fresno City College ran an 81-play red/white intrasquad scrimmage Saturday and coach Tony Caviglia liked what he saw from his football team.

“We took a big step forward,”the 17-year Rams coach said. “Really happy how we progressed from Wednesday's scrimmage.”

Some of the highlights:

▪ Quarterbacks Christian Rossi and Marcus Moore each threw a touchdown.

▪ Running back Elijah Shufford had a 34-yard touchdown run.

▪ There were no fumbles or interceptions.

▪ The Rams had three runs of 50-plus yards.

“I really thought the defense played very fast and physical,” Caviglia said. “Offensively, we struggled a little bit in the running game (beyond those big plays). I want to be a little bit more consistent offensively.”

The scrimmage lasted 55 minutes, the coach said.

“We came out pretty healthy,” he said. “We have to keep working hard and have that chemistry. We’re a very athletic team.”

The Rams open Sept. 5 against De Anza College in Cupertino.
