Warriors fan favorite Pat Spencer takes two-way deal with Suns

His agent, Mark Bartelstein, confirmed the deal in an email to the Chronicle.

Spencer, a 6-foot-3 guard who turns 30 on Saturday, spent parts of four seasons with the Warriors. His tenure in the organization began in the G League and he slowly worked his way into a rotation role, playing in six games in 2023-24, then 39 the next season and finally 66 (including 14 starts) last season. He averaged career highs of 18.6 minutes, 7.2 points and 3.5 assists in 2025-26.

Spencer also created an indelible moment during Golden State's 99-98 loss in Philadelphia on Dec. 4. He drained back-to-back 3-point shots during a frenzied fourth-quarter comeback, then gestured toward the infamously hostile Philly crowd and shouted, "I'm that motherf-er!"

Warriors' Yaxel Lendeborg eyes summer league debut: ‘He's an extreme talent'

Golden State Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg will make his professional debut Friday night, when the Warriors open their summer league schedule against the Los Angeles Lakers at Chase Center.

Friend of Warriors' Jimmy Butler among six facing federal sports gambling indictment

Ernesto Plascencia, a friend of Golden State Warriors forward Jimmy Butler, and Paolo Zamorano, a former USF basketball player, were among six men named in a federal sports gambling indictment.

Spencer scored 16 points in that game, then poured in another 19 two nights later to lead the short-handed Warriors to a win in Cleveland.

After the victory over the Cavaliers, head coach Steve Kerr said, "His head coach realized that Pat is that motherf-er. I was getting the inkling. It was starting to creep in. But I didn't realize until he told the world, and tonight it was very clear."

That Spencer reached the NBA at all counted as improbable, given his background. He won the 2019 Tewaaraton Award while playing lacrosse at Loyola-Maryland, that sport's equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. Spencer finished his lacrosse career as the NCAA's all-time leader in assists with 231.

But he always loved basketball, so he transferred to Northwestern to play one season of college basketball. Spencer averaged 10.4 points for the Wildcats during the 2019-20 season while going up against top competition in the Big Ten.

Warriors forward Draymond Green often praised Spencer's basketball IQ and competitiveness, calling him a "great teammate." He also became known for his habit of wearing a T-shirt under his game jersey.

ESPN first reported Spencer's deal with the Suns.
