Santa Cruz Little League's 50-70 All-Stars win D-39 title | Local Roundup

Santa Cruz Little League's 50-70 All-Stars beat Capitola-Soquel 7-6 in the District 39 championship on Friday.

It advances to the sectional tournament, hosted by Los Gatos L.L. (District 12), on July 2.

"I am honored to have had the opportunity to be a part of their baseball journey," SCLL manager JP Basile said. "I have had these kids since our 10-year-olds All-Star season in some coaching capacity. We are family. For them to finally earn that plaque is icing on the cake. We are not done yet."

Starting pitcher Jackson Ow earned the win and Cash Basile secured the save in the D-39 championship. Ow, Alex Donaldson, Ronan Godsy, and Mosi Sattinger-Lapin drove in runs.

SCLL finished 3-0 and outscored opponents 33-7. Hunter Renfro and Godsy hit home runs.

The Santa Cruz All-Stars also include Currey Miller, Finn Blackburn, Jack Joanides, Cesar Puga-Acosta, Tristan Fyfe, and Aleksander Wilson.

Women's soccer

At Eclipse Soccer Academy Women 1, Atletico San Jose FC 0: The semi-pro Eclipse of Santa Cruz secured a berth into the UPSL Women's regional playoffs with their win at Santa Cruz High on Saturday night.

Amelia Fung scored the decisive goal on a pass from Madeline Puente in the 65th minute.

Eclipse goalkeeper Janneke Strause made a critical one-on-one save in the 72nd minute.

The Eclipse (6-2-1; 19 points) close the regular season against Orchard Valley Toros in Morgan Hill on Saturday.

Track and field

USATF U20 Championships: Scotts Valley Track Club's Caden Kilpatrick, Evan Wong, Jake Locatelli, Anton Khomenko led the local contingent on Day 3 of the Nike Outdoor Nationals & USATF U20 Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday.

They teamed up for 10th out of 42 relay teams in the boys 4×100 (Emerging Elite) prelims in 43.67 seconds. They missed making the final by three hundredths of a second.

SVTC's Aaron Weiss took 70th in the boys 800 meters Championship flight race in 1:56.23 on Friday.

SVTC's Dylan Turzak took 89th in the girls 800 Emerging Elite in 2:21.65. Soquel Track Club's Taylor Glinkowski took 91st in 2:21.81, and Morgan Hill's Anna Conca, a sophomore at Monte Vista Christian, took 103rd in 2:28.31.

Santa Cruz's Joy Roberts took 99th in the girls 100 Emerging Elite prelims in 12.86.

Scotts Valley's Todd Hoffman took 50th in the men's coaches 1 mile in 9:36.90.
