Padres minors: A quality start for Victor Lizarraga, Kerrington Cross hits 11th homer

Right-hander Victor Lizarraga spun a quality start and a 13-hit attack was just enough for Double-A San Antonio to outlast host Corpus Christi in a 2-1 win on Saturday night.

The 22-year-old Lizarraga (3-6, 5.98 ERA) struck out three and allowed a run on four hits and two walks in 6 ⅔ innings.

It was just Lizarraga's third quality start of the season.

First baseman Romeo Sanabria (.751 OPS) went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run scored.

Shortstop Ryan Jackson (.661 OPS), right fielder Tirso Ornelas (.761 OPS), third baseman Luis Verdugo (.717 OPS), left fielder Albert Fabian (.627 OPS) and center fielder Kai Roberts (.539 OPS) all had two hits.

Ornelas and Roberts each drove in a run and Verdugo doubled.

San Antonio is 31-37.

Reno 7, Chihuahuas 1: LHP Jackson Wolf (4-5, 5.98 ERA) allowed two runs in five innings in the loss. CF Carlos Rodriguez (.763 OPS) went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. C Victor Duarte (.777 OPS) went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk.

HIGH SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (28-40)

TinCaps 3, South Bend 2: 2B Justin DeCriscio (.741 OPS) went 2-for-4 with a double. CF Kasen Wells (.754 OPS) went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. C Lamar King Jr. (.712 OPS) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and his 14th steal. RHP Clay Edmondson (1.67 ERA) earned his 11th save with a scoreless ninth.

LOW SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (39-29)

San Jose 11, Storm 8: 3B Kerrington Cross (1.075 OPS) hit his 11th homer. 1B Luke Cantwell (.999 OPS) drove in three runs on two hits, including his second homer. 2B Jose Verdugo (.739 OPS) hit his fourth homer and SS Jorge Quintana (.635 OPS) hit his second homer. Verdugo drove in three runs on three hits. RHP Tyler Schmitt (4.47 ERA) allowed three runs in five innings in the start.

ROOKIE ACL PADRES (20-16)

Padres 2, Rangers 1 (7): LHP Adler Cecil (6.10 ERA) struck out four and allowed a run in four innings in the start. RF Jesmaylin Arias (.833 OPS) went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

ROOKIE DSL BROWN (4-11)

Athletics 16, Padres 9 (7): LF Luis Rodriguez (.713 OPS) went 1-for-2 with a triple, an RBI, two walks and a run scored. C Jeanfranco Fernandez (.701 OPS) went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four runs scored. CF Eliander Primera (.693 OPS) drove in four runs on two hits, including a double.

ROOKIE DSL GOLD (13-2)

Padres 8, Rays 1 (7): C Dayquer Alfonzo (1.158 OPS) went 2-for-4 with a double. CF Sebastian Pena (.780 OPS) drove in three runs on two hits.
