Elena Rybakina's Injury Has Fans Worried About Her Status For Wimbledon

Elena Rybakina, the No. 2 women's tennis player in the world, might be in jeopardy of missing the 2026 Wimbledon Championships.

Roughly 24 hours ago, Alex Eala picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win over Rybakina at the Berlin Open. It was a shocking result considering Rybakina led 4-1 in the opening set. Fans noticed the two-time Grand Slam champion just didn't look like herself in the second set. Well, we now know why.

Rybakina announced on Friday that she's dealing with discomfort in her right hip. The injury is serious enough for her to withdraw from the Bad Homburg Open.

"Unfortunately, I have to withdraw from Bad Homburg due to some discomfort in my right hip," Rybakina said in a statement. "I need to consult with my medical team and undergo further assessment before making any decisions about the next steps. Thank you for your understanding and support."

One of the favorites at Wimbledon.

The timing of this announcement is quite concerning for Rybakina. She only has 10 days to rest up before Wimbledon's main draw begins.

Rybakina has not yet announced if she'll have to withdraw from Wimbledon due to injury, but her fans are already bracing for the worst-case scenario.

As of this moment, Rybakina has the second-best odds to win the title at Wimbledon. That's not a huge shock considering she won the tournament in 2022.

If Rybakina isn't at full strength though, it's tough to imagine her winning a second title at Wimbledon.

We'll know more about Rybakina's status in the coming days. Hopefully, she'l be ready to compete in the third major of the year.
