Detroit Pistons Emerge in Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Rumors: Report

A new team is now being mentioned in the NBA trade rumors surrounding Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo: the Detroit Pistons.

They were the No. 1 contender in the Eastern Conference behind their top star, Cade Cunningham, but failed to advance past the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Playoffs’ Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Instead, they watched the New York Knicks capture this year’s championship, but now Detroit could be involved in making some moves to boost their roster for next season.

According to Marc Stein on his Substack, the Pistons are a team to be “monitored” as a potential facilitator in a three-team blockbuster trade involving the Greek Freak.

The deal would also involve the Eastern Conference’s Miami Heat, who have been part of Giannis speculation for weeks, and would send Tyler Herro to the Pistons’ roster, and bring Giannis to South Beach. However, Stein’s report doesn’t include any discussion of what the Pistons would send to the Bucks or Heat in this deal.

Miami nearly reached the postseason, but lost to the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA Play-In Tournament. During that game, Miami star Bam Adebayo exited the game in the first half due to a controversial play from LaMelo Ball that resulted in an injury.

If this deal were to happen, it would definitely be beneficial for the Pistons, a team that relied heavily on Cunningham to lead them in their games, especially during the playoffs. Herro would provide another scorer and outside shooting threat. With All-Star Jalen Duren considered a threat in the paint area, it might create plenty of opportunities.

This past season, Herro was Miami’s second-leading scorer behind Norman Powell, averaging 20.5 points per game to go with 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists.

Unfortunately, he played in only 33 games of the Heat’s season due to injury. Several days ago, Five Reasons Sports reported that Herro would undergo “a minor procedure on his foot” this past week. The outlet indicated this procedure wasn’t expected to limit “his offseason program nor delay his next training camp.”

Meanwhile, fans are still anticipating news of that blockbuster Giannis trade, which feels like it’s been a topic of discussion forever. That’s because the rumors and reports about him getting dealt from Milwaukee elsewhere emerged before this past season’s trade deadline, but he remained with the Bucks, a team that seems to be on the way to a serious rebuild.
