Lamine Yamal Issues Promise to Spain Fans Before Saudi Arabia Game
Spain walked away from their World Cup opener with more questions than answers. A scoreless draw against Cape Verde on June 15 wasn't the start anyone in the camp expected, especially from a side that arrived in the tournament as one of the favorites to make a deep run.
Now they face Saudi Arabia on Sunday at Atlanta Stadium, and the pressure to deliver has only grown since that opening result.
History favors Spain heavily here. The two sides last met back in September 2012, a friendly that Spain won comfortably by a 5-0 scoreline, though both teams look very different more than a decade later.
La Roja's form over their last five matches has been steady at best, with two wins and three draws showing a team still searching for consistency rather than dominance.
Spain Needs a Response and Yamal Is Promising One
Ahead of kickoff, star forward Lamine Yamal sent a message straight to the fans, vowing that Spain will show its real identity once the match begins.
"On Sunday, we will go to achieve that win, and of course we will bring out our playing style and show who we are," Yamal said, via Fabrizio Romano. "Together we will overcome everything. I'm also sure that we will all be together on July 19. See you soon, a hug to everyone."

Yamal's Workload Still Being Managed
Yamal hadn't played since April due to a hamstring injury, but manager Luis de la Fuente confirmed he's fully available for Sunday's match. There had been real debate over whether Spain would ease him in slowly to avoid a setback, yet Yamal still saw the field for 19 minutes against Cape Verde.
When asked how much he could handle this time, de la Fuente admitted the winger isn't ready for a full 90 minutes, though something in the range of 45 to 60 minutes is realistic. The stakes go beyond Sunday alone.
A second straight match without a win would put Spain in a tough spot heading into Matchday 3, needing a strong result just to keep their knockout hopes alive. Much of the contest may hinge on how Spain's midfield handles Saudi Arabia's defensive shape.
Pedri, Rodri and Fabian Ruiz are expected to control the center of the pitch, looking to feed Yamal and Nico Williams in wider areas where they can create chances.
If Saudi Arabia sit back the way they did against Uruguay, the opening goal could end up deciding the entire match. Spain's quality should eventually break through, but a scoreless first half would make for a nervy second 45 inside Atlanta Stadium.
