Colts' Sauce Gardner Addresses Age Confusion, Confirms Correct Birthdate
Indianapolis Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner has built a reputation as one of the NFL's top defensive backs during his first four years in the league, but even these days, he's still finding himself clarifying the confusion surrounding his age.
The Colts defensive back, who is entering his fifth NFL season and has already appeared in 59 regular-season games split between New York and Indianapolis, is still listed in multiple major platforms as born on Aug. 31, 2000.
According to Gardner, who addressed the media on Thursday, that date is off by a full year.
"I'm 24!" Gardner said. "It's crazy that I'm even being asked this." He later doubled down when asked again, answering "yes" to whether he's right, adding, "You can ask my mom!"
Several popular sites, including ESPN (which already fixed it) and Pro Football Reference, had Gardner's birthdate listed as Aug. 31, 2000. However, Gardner clarified that his actual birthdate is Aug. 31, 2001.
The Colts' cornerback explained that all official documentation throughout his career reflects the 2001 date, adding to his disbelief of why his age is always listed incorrectly.
"When it comes to the paperwork and everything I've signed, it all says '01," Gardner said. "So, I don't know where or how it got messed up unless people just get it straight from Google."

"I'm 24, by the way! I seen that. Yeah, I'm 24."#Colts CB Sauce Gardner's age is wrong nearly everywhere on the internet. It's even wrong in Madden.

Beyond websites, the famous Madden NFL video game also has Gardner listed as 25 years old.
"It's wrong in Madden, too? That's crazy because I never checked," Gardner said.
Despite the widespread confusion among media members and fans, the actual NFL records-including the league's 2025 Record and Fact Book-have consistently reflected the correct information on Gardner's profile.
