Boomer Esiason Is Urging The Knicks To Visit The White House
The New York Knicks may want to make plans to visit the White House this offseason.
After Jalen Brunson scored 45 points in Game 5 to lead the Knicks to their first title since 1973, he and his team received a special shoutout from President Donald Trump. The Queens native was understandably fired up about his hometown team getting the job done.
"Congratulations to Jim Dolan and the New York Knicks!!!" Trump wrote on Truth Social. "What a year it has been but, even more so, what incredible playoff wins we have all witnessed, especially the last four – Maybe the greatest in the history of basketball. Also, tonight, a superstar was born. His name is Jalen Brunson, and there are others, including, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and great Patriot, Mitchell Robinson! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
The Knicks will almost certainly receive an invitation to the White House? Will they accept it though?
During this Tuesday's edition of the "Boomer & Gio" show on WFAN, former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason urged the Knicks to visit the White House.
"When does Jim Dolan tell his team that we're going down to visit my good friend Donald Trump in the White House? That's what I can't wait for. And hopefully they all go," Esiason said. "Hopefully, they go just like they're doing everything that they're doing here. I would love to see them be honored at the White House, given this is the 250th birthday of our great nation, wouldn't it be wonderful to see the Knicks standing there with a huge Knicks fan who happens to be the president of the United States."
Esiason wasn't done talking about the Knicks potentially visiting the White House.
"You go out of respect to the office…I would think that everybody can get over the political nature of all of this," Esiason continued. "Doing the right thing by the team, which this mayor happens to be doing, I'm all in support of. I have no problem with the New York Knicks going to a socialist mayor and saying, ‘We're the champions, here are the keys,' and the mayor basking in the glow of that championship."
The president attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
Trump showed up to Madison Square Garden last week to attend Game 3 between the Knicks and Spurs.
There were rumblings about Trump sleeping in his suite, but Knicks owner Jim Dolan shut that rumor down.
"I was with him the whole time. We were talking the whole time. He was very much awake, he was very much engaged," Dolan said. "Look, that's the first sitting president of the United States to ever go to an NBA Finals. That's a huge honor – and he's a New Yorker. Whatever you think about him, he's a Knicks fan. I think he's a great guy. I've known him for over 30 years. Having him there was a great honor."
We'll see if Dolan and the Knicks take a trip to the nation's capital later this year.
