Los Molinos' Jones named second team all section
Los Molinos starting pitcher/catcher junior Addison Jones has been named to the 2026 All-Section Softball Team as voted on by the media panel.
The Northern Section softball team is voted on by a media panel that includes Kevin Askeland of Max Preps, Aaron Williams of Play on Sports, Justin Couchot of the Chico Enterprise Record, Brett Abrams of the Redding Record Searchlight, Rick Silva of the Red Bluff Daily News and Jamie Corriea, and Jeff Larson of The Marysville Appeal Democrat.
Jones led the Bulldogs this year to their 24-5-1 record and a Five-Star league championship with an 8-0 record. In 16 appearances in the circle for the Bulldogs, she went 11-2 with an ERA of 0.81. She collected a section's best four no-hitters with four shutouts and one save.
In 86 innings pitched, she struck out 161 hitters, walked just nine, and allowed 30 runs (10 earned) on 30 hits.
Jones was pretty dominant with the bat as well. In 20 games, she hit .630 (second best in the northern section) and drove in 37 runs. She also ripped 14 doubles, one triple, and three home runs. In 70 plate appearances, she struck out just three times and stole seven bases this year without getting caught.
This year, the media panel chose: Co-players of the year in softball, honoring both Brooklyn Atteberry of Las Plumas and Chico's McKena Harvey. The two are also cousins.
Atterbury hit 480 this year in 33 games, with 11 home runs (third in the section), nine doubles, four triples, and drove in 48 runs. The Thunderbirds went 31-1-1 and captured the NorCal Division III Championship with a 4-1 win over Harvey and the Panthers. Harvey hit .598, good enough for fourth in the Northern Section. She also pounded eight home runs, which was fourth in the Northern Section.
But Harvey was also dominant in a circle, compiling a 1.70 ERA, going 13-3 in 17 games, striking out 163 batters in 103 innings pitched.
Las Plumas coach Toby Thompson was named the Northern Section Softball Coach of the Year, leading his Thunderbirds to the NorCal Regional Championship along with the Northern Section crown, defeating Eastern Athletic League powers Pleasant Valley, Chico, and Foothill on their way to the title.
