OG Anunoby Reveals Who Reached Out After Iconic NBA Finals Game Winner

The New York Knicks pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in NBA history, and OG Anunoby was the player who capped off the historic win.

Down 29 points to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, New York clawed all the way back and put the ball in Jalen Brunson’s hands at the end of the game to be the savior. Instead, Brunson’s 3-point attempt hit the front of the rim, and Anunoby crashed the offensive glass, soared over two Spurs defenders, and tipped in the game-winner with just 1.2 seconds left.

And just like that, the Knicks walked out of Madison Square Garden with a 107-106 victory and just one win away from their first NBA championship in over 50 years.

Knicks head coach Mike Brown later called it “the most iconic shot in the history of New York basketball.”

Speaking with reporters on Friday, just 24 hours before Game 5 in San Antonio, Anunoby revealed some of the first people who reached out to him after the shot, and the answer may surprise you.

“My Raptors teammates that I used to play with in the past, they hit me up. They were really excited for me, happy for me,” Anunoby said.

Anunoby was the Toronto Raptors’ No. 23 overall pick in 2017, and he spent the first six and a half years of his NBA career there, developing alongside stars like DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Lowry, and Kawhi Leonard.

Anunoby has been vocal about the strong connections he still has with many of his Raptors teammates and was part of Toronto’s historic 2019 championship run alongside Leonard, Lowry, Pascal Siakam, Serge Ibaka, Norman Powell, and Fred VanVleet.

The Raptors traded him, alongside Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn, to the Knicks in December 2023 in exchange for RJ Barrett, a Toronto native who New York had drafted No. 3 overall in 2019, Immanuel Quickley, and a second-round pick.

Now, less than three years later, he’s already a New York legend, and on the verge of another NBA title, and potentially, Finals MVP.
