F1's Pierre Gasly Decision Hands Isack Hadjar Bad News

Pierre Gasly's Monaco Grand Prix result has been restored after the stewards rescinded the two five-second penalties that had dropped the Alpine driver down the order following the Formula 1 race, handing a blow to Isack Hadjar.

F1 confirmed the decision on Friday, with the stewards ruling in Alpine's favor after the team exercised its Right of Review following the final classification. The two penalties, both issued for pit lane speeding during the race, have been wiped from Gasly's result, reinstating him to third place.

The decision is a blow for Red Bull's Isack Hadjar, who had inherited the podium position after Gasly's penalties were applied. The Frenchman now drops back out of the top three, with the revised result moving Gasly back onto the Monaco podium and adjusting the points tally accordingly.

The decision also brings closure to what had been a painful few days for the Alpine driver. After crossing the line in third, Gasly was left devastated when the penalties were applied post-race, and he did not attempt to hide it.

"I'm heartbroken right now… no words can describe the pain of losing a podium in Formula 1, and in the streets [of] Monaco, I'm devastated," Gasly wrote on X after the Monaco GP. "We crossed the finish line in 3rd today, and that's all I want to remember. I've dreamed about that podium thousands [of] times, [we 've] all [been] working very hard for years to achieve moments like today, and it doesn't feel right for it to be taken away like this. I really hope the right outcome can be made. We will fight for it with my team."

That fight paid off.

Alpine Issues Statement After FIA Decision

Alpine welcomed the outcome in a team statement, saying they were grateful for the transparency and cooperation of the FIA and Formula One Management throughout the review process. The team also confirmed that their focus has now shifted fully to the 2026 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix weekend.

"We welcome the decision made by the FIA to deem our Right of Review as admissible following the final classification of last weekend's Monaco Grand Prix," Alpine said. "As a result, the Stewards have rescinded the two five-second penalties imposed on Car #10, which reinstates the team's third-place finish."

For Gasly, it is a timely boost heading into the first Spanish round of the 2026 Formula 1 season, with the 30-year-old driver now able to carry the momentum of a podium finish rather than the frustration of a result stripped away in the stewards' room. For Hadjar, it is a painful reminder of how quickly fortunes can change in F1.
