Dodgers Announce Justin Wrobleski News During Pirates Game
The Los Angeles Dodgers pitching staff is loaded from top to bottom. Yet one player has emerged as one of the most reliable arms in a completely unexpected fashion, that player being left-hander Justin Wrobleski.
With both Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow on the injured list, Wrobleski naturally had to fill a spot in the starting rotation. And with his performance so far this year, it is hard to imagine the Dodgers shifting him back to the bullpen. Now in his third big-league season, the 25-year-old has posted a 2.62 ERA across his first 11 appearances.
What is most interesting about Wrobleski is that he is not a big strikeout arm, with just 44 in 68 2/3 innings, but rather he generates a lot of weak contact.
Wrobleski took the mound for his 12th appearance in Thursday's series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates and was putting together another quality outing until the bottom of the fifth inning. He had tossed four efficient scoreless innings before allowing two home runs and three runs to cross in the fifth.
Then, to make matters worse, his night ended with an injury. He was drilled by a comebacker off the bat of Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds, but that was not when the injury occurred. Instead, while rushing to cover first base, he collided with Reynolds, with Reynolds going to the floor and Wrobleski grabbing at his right leg afterward.
After a brief visit from manager Dave Roberts and the training staff, Wrobleski was removed. Shortly after, the Dodgers announced the reason for his early exit.
"Dodgers Justin Wrobleski left the game with a right hamstring contusion and Shohei Ohtani left the game with left knee inflammation," the team wrote on X.

With the Dodgers rotation already missing key arms, it would be a huge blow to see one of the most reliable pieces land on the injured list. Roberts will likely provide another update on Wrobleski's status after the game.
