Knicks Coach Mike Brown Calls OG Anunoby Tip-In 'Most Iconic Shot' in New York History

OG Anunoby had an iconic moment for the New York Knicks on Wednesday, as they took a 3-1 series lead against the San Antonio Spurs. The Knicks were down 106-105 with 5.7 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Star guard Jalen Brunson took a 3-pointer to give New York a potential go-ahead basket, and he missed.

Fortunately for the Knicks, Anunoby was in the right position and tipped the ball in to give the team a one-point lead. His late-game heroics led the crowd at Madison Square Garden to get fired up. The Spurs couldn't get a shot with 1.2 seconds left, and New York secured a 107-106 win.

Head coach Mike Brown had ultimate praise for what Anunoby did in the crucial moments of the game during his postgame interview.

"It's unbelievable," Brown said. "The tip, how he had to control it and tip it in from -- that has to be the most iconic shot in the history of New York basketball. … It was just unbelievable."

Anunoby had an efficient night with 33 points, four rebounds, a steal and a block on 7-for-9 shooting from deep. He was the only other player to score at least 30 points for the Knicks, as Jalen Brunson led the team with 36 points.

In the series, Anunoby has proven his value to the team on both ends. He has played some of the best games of his career, averaging 23.8 points and 4.0 rebounds on 55.6% shooting from deep. He scored 19 points in the second half of Game 4 to help the Knicks mount a comeback after the Spurs built a 29-point lead.

During his postgame interview, Anunoby said that the Knicks didn't panic and understood that they had to be resilient to make a strong comeback.

"We've came back plenty of times when we were down," Anunoby said.

Most of the Spurs' attention on defense was on Brunson. As he attempted a 3-pointer, Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox were on him, leaving Anunoby free to crash the offensive glass. Anunoby knew that he was free, and no Spurs player paid attention to him, which allowed him to run into the open lane.

"The shot went up, I was free. There was no one boxing me out, so I just went in there for a tip dunk and ended up just tipping it in," he said.

Before his shot, Anunoby also had an important play on the defensive end. He blocked Fox's layup attempt, which could've given the Spurs a three-point lead if he had made the shot. Fortunately for the Knicks, Anunoby has stayed locked in on both ends.

They will travel to San Antonio for Game 5 on Saturday and have a chance to end the series.
