The Person Behind Taylor Swift's Knicks Fandom Is No Longer With the Team

Taylor Swift is a Knicks fan, and she made sure to show her support for the franchise on Wednesday by attending Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs.

The pop star's appearance in the game was not a surprise since it has been reported by several media outlets heading to the contest. Page Six even cited a source saying that Swift is "a huge fan of the Knicks and really wants to be there to support them." The report also mentioned that Swift was "going with friends" to watch the game.

It's certainly an interesting fact about Swift, especially since her fiancé, Travis Kelce, is a massive Cleveland Cavaliers fan. The two even attended an Eastern Conference finals game between New York and Cleveland in Ohio.

Why Is Taylor Swift a Knicks Fan?

While Swift is a Knicks supporter, her fandom didn't really stem from her move to the city over a decade ago. Instead, it's because of a player that's no longer with the team: Amar'e Stoudemire.

Stoudemire played for the Knicks from 2010 to 2015, and apparently during his stay with the team, he developed a close friendship with Swift. Over the years, a video of the singer attending a New York practice and Stoudemire lifting her to dunk has even popped up from time to time.

Swift also spoke to TIME in 2014 and discussed her Knicks fandom, citing Stoudemire's role in it.

"I love them, though. Why does that matter?" Swift said in the TIME interview after being reminded that the Knicks were struggling at the time.

"So you run into a bunch of different, interesting types of people at the Met Ball. I've gone the last four years. And the most normal people at that event, every single time, are Amar'e Stoudemire and his wife Alexis. I talk with them and hang with them every time I'm there. So I've always had this sort of love of the Knicks, just because Amar'e is so cool."

For what it's worth, Swift also has a deep affection for Madison Square Garden because she performed at the arena when she was a child.

"Also I performed at the Knicks'-at Madison Square Garden's-Kids Talent Competition at halftime when I was 12 or 13. And ever since then I've had this kind of sparkly, magical opinion of Madison Square Garden and the Knicks, since they let me sing when I was a little kid."

While it has been 11 years since Stoudemire left New York, it's clear that Swift's love for the franchise remains strong.
