Game 3 Of NBA Finals Makes 28-Year TV Ratings History
Now that ABC's ratings have been released, it's fair to say the sports world was locked in on Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs.
After dropping the first two games of the NBA Finals at home, Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs entered Game 3 at Madison Square Garden with their backs against the wall. Luckily for San Antonio, their 22-year-old All-Star was more than ready for the challenge. He had 32 points in a 115-111 win over the Knicks.
Although the crowd in New York was hostile, San Antonio's key playmakers kept coming up clutch in the fourth quarter.
"We expected it to be loud in there. We said coming into the game they're going to have their runs," Spurs star Stephon Castle said, via ESPN. "They're going to make shots. When that happens, just stick together, stay poised. We did that for a majority of the 48 minutes."
ABC is reporting that Game 3 of the NBA Finals drew 23.8 million viewers, which would make it the most-watched Game 3 in 28 years.
Monday night's game between the Knicks and Spurs also marked the most-watched TV program since this year's Super Bowl.
The ratings for Game 4 could be even better.
There's a good chance ABC draws even better ratings this Wednesday night for Game 4, especially since there's so much at stake.
The Spurs are hoping to even up the series before heading back home to San Antonio, whereas the Knicks are looking to inch one step closer to their first title since 1973.
