Abdul Carter Update Emerges Day After Exiting Giants Minicamp With Injury

New York Giants fans got quite a scare on Tuesday when 2025 first-round pick Abdul Carter left minicamp early after suffering an ankle injury.

"Development: Giants edge Abdul Carter had his entire left shoe and sock off, and he's being examined by trainers," Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reported. "He is limping VERY gingerly off to the side. I didn't see it happen, but Carter got banged up during this practice. He just limped into the indoor field as practice continues outside."

Head coach John Harbaugh told reporters after practice that it didn't seem like anything to be concerned about - but that didn't stop fans' minds from going to the worst-case scenario.

However, those concerns were likely dissipated on Wednesday when reports about Carter's injury status emerged from minicamp.

"Abdul Carter is on the field and participating some in what John Harbaugh called a ‘mental sweat' walkthrough that serves as the final practice of the offseason for Giants," Art Stapleton of USA Today posted on X. "Carter moving fine. John Mara here for third straight day. Steve Tisch here for first time this week."

ESPN's Jordan Raanan added: "Abdul Carter was back on the field during the walkthrough-like practice. Doesn't seem like anything to worry about with training camp now 7 weeks away."

Losing Carter for any amount of time would have been a gut-punch for a Giants defense that relied heavily on his ability to rush the passer.

During his rookie season, Carter posted a team-high 66 pressures, 43 hurries, 18 QB hits, seven tackles for loss, four sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries, according to Pro Football Focus.

New York's pass-rush in 2026 will rely heavily on Carter staying healthy alongside Brian Burns, who led the team with 16.5 sacks last season, former top-five pick Kayvon Thibodeaux, who's just two years removed from an 11.5-sack season, and 2026 No. 5 overall pick Arvell Reese.

The foursome are expected to be one of the more feared pass-rush units in the NFL.
