LeBron James Says San Antonio Gave Knicks a Strange Finals Advantage

LeBron James believes the New York Knicks may have had an unusual advantage by starting the NBA Finals on the road against the San Antonio Spurs. The Knicks opened the series in San Antonio before returning to Madison Square Garden, and while road games are usually seen as a challenge, LeBron had a different view.

According to him, the lack of distractions in San Antonio may have actually helped New York stay locked in. With the Knicks and Spurs now locked in a tense Finals battle, his comments added a funny but sharp twist to the way the series has played out so far.

While speaking on a recent episode of the ‘Mind The Game' podcast he said, "I think just them having a level of being in San Antonio, I mean its San Antonio, you're focused on basketball. You ain't doing (expletive) in San Antonio, nothing at all. Nothing, and I mean nothing."

Game 4 has the feel of a pressure test for both sides, but for very different reasons.

The Knicks are still ahead, but Game 3 made the series feel less comfortable. They had a chance to keep the Spurs pinned down, and instead San Antonio found enough answers to make things interesting again. Now New York has to respond at home before the mood around the Finals starts to shift.

For the Spurs, the formula is not complicated. They need Wembanyama to keep playing with the same force he showed in the last game, but they also need cleaner support around him. When he is aggressive and decisive, everything opens up. When the offense gets slow or careless, the Knicks can load up and make possessions ugly.

New York's biggest issue is rhythm. Brunson is still capable of taking over late, but San Antonio has made him work hard for everything. The Knicks need him to settle in earlier, avoid wasted possessions, and trust the shooters around him when the defense collapses.

The bench could also tilt the night. San Antonio will need reliable minutes when Wembanyama sits, while New York could use someone outside the main stars to create a quick burst.

That is what makes this game so important. A Knicks win puts the series back in their hands. A Spurs win changes everything and turns the Finals into a much longer, much more uncomfortable fight.
