Kirby Smart, Georgia Land 4-Star QB Recruit with SEC, NFL Ties
The Georgia Bulldogs keep building toward the future of the football program, and they landed a key quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class on Friday evening.
The Bulldogs had been searching for a passer in the cycle, with only one player at the position ranked within the top-35 in the 247SportsComposite ranks remaining on the board.
That search came to a close this week with the news that the lone available player within that range had committed to Kirby Smart's program.
A four-star quarterback in the 247Sports Composite platform, Colton Nussmeier announced his decision to join Georgia on Friday, giving the Bulldogs their top quarterback target in the class.
The Denton, TX prospect chose Georgia over other elite programs, including UCLA, Arkansas and Texas Tech, and after landing 22 offers and making two official visits throughout his recruiting process.
"I like everything about them," Nussmeier said. "I like the way they run the program. I like the staff a lot. I know the feel. I know how they run their offense."
The 6-foot-3 signal-caller is the No. 14 quarterback in the 2027 class and No. 167 player overall in 24Sports Composite. 247Sports, meanwhile, has Nussmeier ranked within the top-150 players in the class nationally, as well as a top-10 quarterback
Nussmeier played at Flower Mound Marcus High School before transferring to Denton Ryan.

Colton is also the younger brother of Garrett Nussmeier, who is expected to be a starting quarterback for the LSU Tigers for the 2026 college football season, placing both brothers in the same conference moving forward.
The Nussmeier brothers also come from a coaching background, with their father, Doug Nussmeier, currently serving as the offensive coordinator of the NFL's New Orleans Saints.
"All glory to God! Go Dawgs!" Nussmeier posted on X as part of his commitment announcement.
