Gabriela Jaquez Injury Update: Chicago Sky Announce Official Status of Star Rookie

Gabriela Jaquez got off to a great start for the Chicago Sky in the 2026 season. In her first six games, she averaged 11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals. She was also efficient offensively for Chicago, shooting 42.9% from the field while playing 28.3 minutes per game.

However, Jaquez has not played since the Sky's May 23 game against the Minnesota Lynx, missing three games in the process. The 22-year-old guard has been dealing with a lingering left knee injury.

It's unknown when exactly Jaquez suffered the health setback, but her absence has been a massive blow to a Chicago team that is already missing several key players. Rickea Jackson has been ruled out for the season after four games due to an ACL tear, while Courtney Vandersloot (right knee) and DiJonai Carrington (left foot) have yet to play this campaign.

In an encouraging turn for the Sky, however, Jaquez has been upgraded ahead of their game against the Connecticut Sun on Friday.

The Sky listed Jaquez as "questionable" for the game, which suggests there's a reasonable chance that she will play.

While her availability is not guaranteed, the fact that her designation has been upgraded means that she's progressing in her recovery.

The Sky are on a five-game losing streak, so they could really use some help as they try to get back into playoff contention. It's worth noting that Chicago got off to a 3-1 start before Jackson and Jaquez's injuries slowed them down.
