Victor Wembanyama Gets Honest About Surprising Fan Selfie Incident

During the fourth quarter of Wednesday night’s NBA Finals Game 1 matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks, a fan stormed the court at the Frost Bank Center to take a selfie with NBA superstar Victor Wembanyama.

Wembanyama flashed a confused smile as security quickly escorted the fan off the court.

After the Spurs’ 105-95 loss, Wembanyama was asked about this bizarre and disruptive fan encounter.

“I’ve never been in that situation. I didn’t know how to act. It really surprised almost as much as that time where a bat crashed the court,” Wembanyama said, referencing a separate incident at the Frost Bank Center in 2024.

The NBA came down hard on the disruptive fan, issuing a swift punishment.

“The individual who entered the court area during Game 1 of The Finals was arrested and will be banned for life from all NBA arenas. A second individual will also receive a lifetime ban for his role in the incident,” the league said in a statement, via Marc Stein.

Wembanyama finished Game 1 with 26 points and 12 rebounds, shooting an inefficient 6/21 from the field and 2/9 from behind the 3-point arc. The 7-foot-4 Frenchman also committed six turnovers in the series-opening loss.

“I was bad tonight,” he said postgame. “It’s not more complicated than that.”

Game 2 of the NBA Finals will tipoff at 8:30 p.m. ET on Friday.
