NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Makes Offer To Spurs Star Victor Wembanyama

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is pulling out all the stops to ensure the Knicks defeat the Spurs in the NBA Finals.

The Spurs have made it to the NBA Finals in large part because of Victor Wembanyama's production on the biggest stage. The 7-foot-4 phenom is averaging 23.2 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game this postseason.

In an effort to slow down Wembanyama in the NBA Finals, Mamdani has invited the All-Star to a government hearing on June 10. That's the same day the Spurs and Knicks will meet for Game 4 of the Finals.

"I'm pleased to invite @Wemby to our second Commission on Government Efficiency hearing on Wednesday June 10th 5-8pm, where we'll be asking the public for their thoughts on how government can run better," Mamdani wrote on X. "Would love to have you there for the whole time!"

Obviously, Wembanyama is going to be locked in on the Finals.

"The lack of experience is a strength for us," Wembanyama told ESPN's Malika Andrews before tipoff for Game 1. "Because we could do impossible stuff ... because we don't know it's impossible."

How will the Knicks slow down Wembanyama?

Prior to Game 1 of the NBA Finals, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green offered the Knicks some advice on how to handle Wembanyama.

"What's very important when trying to guard Victor Wembanyama is your point of attack defender and that'll probably be OG Anunoby," said Green. "When Victor Wembanyama's in the paint, he's probably the most dangerous lob threat in NBA history, what then becomes most important is the size around the point of attack defender of Wemby… because if you don't have size, then you don't stand a chance."

We'll see if OG Anunoby, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mitchell Robinson and New York's top defenders contain Wembanyama.
