Kevin Garnett Calls Out Victor Wembanyama's Emotional Reaction After Spurs Win

Kevin Garnett is not fully on board with how emotional Victor Wembanyama got after the San Antonio Spurs reached the NBA Finals. Wembanyama was visibly overwhelmed after leading San Antonio past the Oklahoma City Thunder, and for many fans, it was a refreshing reminder of how much the moment meant to him.

Garnett, though, saw it a little differently. As a former champion, he believes Wembanyama still has to stay locked in because winning the Western Conference finals is not the finish line. In Garnett's view, the job is not done until the Spurs win four more games.

Speaking on the ‘Ticket and Truth' podcast Garnett said, "He was crying in the Western Conference Finals. That was too emotional for me. He's got four more games to get; you gotta go through the NBA Finals. You gotta be even-keeled right now."

Despite Garnett's criticism, Wembanyama is taking a very honest and true to himself approach to the finals.

Victor Wembanyama is entering the NBA Finals with a mindset that is brutally honest and very on-brand for a player chasing greatness.

After guiding the San Antonio Spurs past the Oklahoma City Thunder, Wembanyama was asked who he wanted to win the title for. Instead of giving the usual polished answer about doing it for everyone around him, he kept it completely personal.

"My first answer would be myself," Wembanyama said. "I think it doesn't get more complicated than that."

That answer may sound surprising at first, but it also shows exactly where his head is. Wembanyama is not pretending this stage is just another step. He knows how rare this opportunity is, especially this early in his career, and he wants to seize it.

The French star has already backed up that mindset on the floor. He came through in the Western Conference finals, earned MVP honors for the series, and helped San Antonio return to the Finals for the first time in more than a decade.

Now comes the next test. The New York Knicks arrive with confidence, momentum, and a fanbase that has waited nearly three decades for this moment.

For Wembanyama, though, the motivation is simple. He is not just playing for history, the city, or the moment. He is chasing something he has wanted for himself since childhood.
