Baseball: Sonoma Valley's season ends in NorCal opener against top-seeded Half Moon Bay

On the heels of its first North Coast Section title in almost 20 years, Sonoma Valley High School's baseball team bowed out of the California Interscholastic Federation's Northern California tournament in its first-round matchup Tuesday, falling to top-seeded Half Moon Bay 3-0 in the Division 4 bracket.

Sonoma Valley, which ends the season 16-13 overall and was making its first-ever appearance in the NorCal tournament, was held to five hits on the day.

Half Moon Bay (21-9), the Central Coast Section Division 5 champion, tallied 10 hits and scored solo runs in the first, third and fourth innings.

Cayden Waldrop had two hits for the eighth-seeded Dragons, while River Gilardi, Luciano Hernandez and Beau Jurasek each had one. The Dragons were missing several key players due to a senior trip.

Sonoma Valley's Jack Johnson fired four innings on the mound in his start, striking out one with no walks, eight hits and two earned runs allowed. Hernandez pitched a scoreless final two innings to keep the Dragons in the game.

Half Moon Bay pitchers Kai Kung and Riley Jackson combined for 10 strikeouts and no walks in their combined shutout.
