Why Is Alphonso Davies Not Playing Tonight for Canada vs Uzbekistan?

Canada will be preparing for the World Cup with two friendly matches against Uzbekistan and Ireland.

Today, Canada will host Uzbekistan at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Canada has not lost in their last six matches.

Canada head coach Jessie Marsch will count on his Canada World Cup squad, but he will be without Alphonso Davies, arguably the best player in the squad.

Davies was named as part of the Canada World Cup squad despite the left back suffering a hamstring injury that almost ruled him out. Davies has not played since May 6, 2026, when he played in the Champions League semifinal for Bayern Munich against PSG.

Davies was part of the Bayern Munich squad for the DFB Pokal Dinal two weeks ago against Stuttgart, but he did not play in the match.

Is Alphonso Davies Injured?

Alphonso Davies remains sidelined and will not play the match against Uzbekistan tonight due to a hamstring injury he suffered last month.

Davies is currently recovering from injury and rejoined the Canada camp to meet up wth the rest of the players. Davies will train on his own for the next few days, and Canada will pick up his rehab plan from Bayern Munich, according to reports from Ben Steiner.

Canada head coach Jesse Marsch was asked about Davies' participation in the World Cup, and Marsch revealed the left back could miss the World Cup opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Marsch said, "I don't think he'll be ready quite on June 12, but we'll see. We spoke with Bayern and thought that the best thing for [Davies] was to continue his initial recovery treatment until the 28th of May."
