QB who led Serra to a CCS title last season no longer at the school. Where will he play?
William Orr, who helped lead Serra to a section championship last season, has withdrawn from the school, coach Patrick Walsh told the Bay Area News Group.
Orr, who will be a sophomore this fall, was Serra's starter for multiple games late last season, including when the Padres beat Los Gatos to win the Central Coast Section Division I championship. He was expected to be Serra's starter this fall, a talented dual-threat player capable of making game-changing plays through the air or on the ground.
Instead, Orr will lace up his cleats somewhere else. He did not respond to multiple requests for comment from the Bay Area News Group.
Serra coach Patrick Walsh told the Bay Area News Group that Orr withdrew from the San Mateo private school between the fall and spring semesters. The coach did not provide a reason, calling it a private matter.
"I support Will," Walsh said. "I’ve helped him in his transition. He’s a great kid, he’s a great talent. I support him, and I'm rooting for him in his next step. He's a good young man."
When Serra lost at St. Mary's-Stockton in a regional final last December, Orr was 10-of-16 passing for 179 yards.
There has been speculation in the Bay Area football community that Orr, who is from the East Bay, would transfer to Clayton Valley Charter. First-year Clayton Valley coach Nathan Kenion told the Bay Area News Group that he is not aware of Orr enrolling at the Concord school.
"I haven’t talked to him or the family or anything like that," Kenion said. “I’m not sure. I've had a couple people bring it up to me, but I personally don’t know.
"I haven’t talked to him or his family, and I know that he’s not on our team right now. That’s all I know. I don’t know if he intends to come or anything like that, but I do know he’s not currently a part of the team."
Orr took over as Serra's starting quarterback after a breakout game in the de facto West Catholic Athletic League championship against Riordan, throwing for 182 yards including a 35-yard touchdown and rushing for 61.
He is receiving interest from numerous Division I schools and has offers from Nevada and Sacramento State.
