Spike Lee's Mid-Season Message to Victor Wembanyama Resurfaces Before NBA Finals
There may not be a bigger New York Knicks fan than Spike Lee, and for the first time since 1999, he’ll have the opportunity to watch his favorite team compete in the NBA Finals when it takes on the San Antonio Spurs.
Ahead of Game 1, a viral interaction between Lee and Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama from All-Star Weekend earlier this season resurfaced on social media.
In the clip, Lee can be heard telling Wembanyama, "I want to see you guys in the Finals, baby!"
Wembanyama quickly replied, "Let's go. Me too. I want to see you guys."
Now, just a few months later, that exchange has become reality, with the Knicks and Spurs set to meet on the NBA’s biggest stage.

The Knicks and Spurs also met in the NBA Cup Championship earlier this season, a game New York won. In fact, the Knicks won two of the three meetings between the teams this year, including that NBA Cup matchup.
While both teams have evolved significantly since they last faced one another, New York enters the NBA Finals as a slight underdog to win the series.
The series is set to begin Wednesday night in San Antonio. After the first two games in Texas, the NBA Finals will shift to New York for at least two games at Madison Square Garden.
Given the Knicks’ long wait to return to the NBA Finals, the atmosphere is expected to be historic, and you can bet longtime New York Knicks superfan Spike Lee will be sitting courtside, as he always is.
