Tyreek Hill Urged to Reunite With Former Head Coach Next Season

Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is still a free agent, but that may change in the not-too-distant future.

Hill is recovering from a devastating season-ending knee injury that likely has teams concerned over whether or not he's lost some explosiveness, agility, and ability to cut up-field.

While there are a handful of teams that make sense as potential landing spots, there's one that makes more sense than others.

Jack McKessy of USA Today recently proposed that Hill should reunite with former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, who's now the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers.

"Hill was one of the first major additions to Mike McDaniel’s offense during his stint as the Dolphins’ head coach," McKessy wrote. "The wideout and the offensive guru combined forces to put together two of the best seasons of Hill’s career in their first two years in Miami. Could they reunite in Los Angeles now that McDaniel is the Chargers’ offensive coordinator?

"It’s certainly possible. McDaniel is now set to join forces with the best quarterback he’s ever worked with, Justin Herbert, but the Chargers could still use an extra boost in their receiving room. … (Keenan) Allen is a free agent now, (Quentin) Johnston is still inconsistent and (Ladd) McConkey still needs to prove he can return to his rookie year form. Hill could be the extra weapon the Chargers need to boost their passing offense in a reunion with McDaniel on the West Coast."

The move not only makes sense from Hill's perspective - he would join a coach who got two 119-catch, 1,700-yard seasons out of him in Miami - and for the Chargers as well.

L.A. let Allen, the team's second-leading receiver last season (81 catches, 777 yards, four touchdowns), hit free agency.

McConkey showed clear signs of regression from his fantastic rookie season, and Johnston still hasn't popped off as the WR1 the Chargers drafted him to be in the first round of the 2023 draft.

Adding a player of Hill's caliber - even in a diminished post-injury form - could be a big weapon for the Chargers WR corps next season as they try to get out of the divisional round of the playoffs.

Hill might not have the 4.29 speed he once did, but he should still be a solid deep threat with a QB who can sling it like Herbert.
