Who's The Favorite To Win French Open After Jannik Sinner's Loss?

Jannik Sinner was an overwhelming favorite to win the 2026 French Open, and yet, the world No. 1 was eliminated in the second round of the tournament.

It seemed like Sinner was well on his way to a straight sets victory over Juan Manuel Cerundolo before his body just shut down in the Paris heat. Although he tried everything in his power to get back to full strength, it was Cerundolo who won 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1.

"I didn't feel very well on court. I struggled, starting to feel very dizzy, very low on energy. ... In the beginning, I was hitting very clean, very good, and then I just kind of hit the wall," Sinner said. "I didn't have energy, really. I was very, very flat. The whole body. I don't remember last time I felt this weak."

Now that Sinner is out of the tournament, the men's draw at Roland Garros is wide open.

Who'll step up now that Sinner has been eliminated?

Oddsmakers have Alexander Zverev as the favorite (+185) to win the French Open, and understandably so. The German has been consistent on the clay and even reached the final at Roland Garros in 2024.

That being said, Zverev has never won a Grand Slam tournament. The man who has the second-best odds, Novak Djokovic, is searching for his 25th major title. Although most sportsbooks have him at +370, an argument can be made that he should be the favorite.

For what it's worth, Djokovic and Zverev could meet in the semifinal. That means we could see someone like Ben Shelton or Francisco Cerundolo in the final.

Suffice to say, the odds of the 2026 French Open producing a first-time Grand Slam champion are fairly high.
