PV's McKeown named MVP as All-League teams announced

The battle between Chico and Pleasant Valley High School was tight all year long. The Vikings won the Eastern Athletic League title, but it was the Panthers who battled their way through the loser's bracket to claim the Northern Section Division II title in dominant fashion against Foothill.

Pleasant Valley's Scott McKeown, a senior and captain for the Vikings, was an integral part to the Vikings' success, and was ultimately rewarded with EAL All-League co-MVP as voted on by Northern Section coaches. McKeown shared the honors with Foothill's Blake Schwerdt. McKeown finished with a .429 batting average with three doubles, three triples and 16 RBIs. He had six stolen bases in seven attempts and a .918 fielding percentage on defense.

McKeown is joined by teammates Braedon Tatreau, Brayden Wynkoop, Holden Franks, Benni Montgomery and Brayden Borges on the All-League selection list. Catcher Hudson Hack was named Honorable Mention.

Chico, the NSCIF D-II champs, had four All-League selections, as well as one Honorable Mention selection. Giuseppe Bianchi, who had two home runs in the section championship game, joins Jaxxon Tweedt, Vincent Boatright, Tanner Horn and Honorable Mention selection Jorden Neugebauer.

For Horn it is a special honor, as he and his sister Annalee Horn, a sophomore pitcher for Durham softball, were both awarded All-League selections.

Other area MVPs included West Valley's Gunner Church for the Northern Athletic League, Gridley's Tanner Abbott for the Westside League, Durham's Landon Lynch for the Sacramento Valley League, Etna's Clayton Harris for the Shasta Cascade League, Maxwell's Colt Montgomery from the Mid-Valley League, Los Molinos' Parker Heitman for the Five Star League and Loyalton's Thor Corcoran from the Evergreen League.
