CCS roundup: Mitty beats Hollister, will play Willow Glen in Open softball final

The stage is set for an epic Central Coast Section Open Division softball final.

Kyleigh Mace pitched a complete game on Wednesday night to lead third-seeded Archbishop Mitty to a 6-1 victory on the road over second-seeded Hollister.

The Monarchs advanced to the final on Saturday at 3 p.m. at West Valley College. Their opponent will be fourth-seeded Willow Glen, which reached the title game with a win over top-seeded St. Francis on Tuesday.

Mitty scored a run in the second and added two more in the fourth.

After Hollister scored in the home half of the fourth to cut the margin to 3-1, Mitty answered with a run in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Mace struck out 10 and walked three. She allowed one run and two hits.

Adelle Duncan and Alyssa Hahn provided much of the offense for Mitty, each finishing with a hit and two RBIs. Nala Opulencia also knocked in a run.

Mitty improved to 25-3. Hollister fell to 21-7.

The Monarchs will now set their sights on Willow Glen, a team they beat 3-2 on March 31.

In four meetings between the teams since 2023, each has won twice.

The rubber match will be for the section's top prize.

Division III

No. 4 Leigh 10, No. 1 Milpitas 3:The only suspense in this one was whether Leigh would widen the margin enough to win by mercy rule. It did not.

Leigh scored six in the first, one in the fourth and three in the fifth to take a 10-1 lead. Milpitas scored two in the sixth to complete the scoring at West Valley College.

The Longhorns will return to West Valley to play third-seeded Live Oak for the championship on Saturday at noon.

Maddie Oliver had two hits and three RBIs and Lili Pon knocked in two runs to lead Leigh, which upped its record to 17-9.

Milpitas finished 13-11.

BASEBALL

Division II

No. 2 Palma 8, No. 3 Burlingame 3: A three-run fourth inning gave Palma all the cushion it needed to advance to the title game with a win over Burlingame.

The Salinas school will play Mitty for the championship on Friday night at Excite Ballpark.

Mark O’Grady, Jean-Luc Uharriet and Preet Mallen each drove in a run for Burlingame, which finished the season 19-10.

Cesar Mercado had two hits and three RBIs for Palma, which upped its record to 22-7.

Division V

No. 1 San Mateo 8, No. 5 St. Francis-Watsonville 4:San Mateo scored four in the first and added four more in the fourth after St. Francis had cut the deficit in half as the Bearcats rolled to victory in this semifinal at Santa Clara University.

Julio Calderon had a triple among his two hits and drove in three runs and Christian Louie and Travis Okimura each had two RBIs for San Mateo, which improved to 21-8.

The Bearcats will play for the title against Half Moon Bay on Friday at Excite Ballpark

St. Francis finished 9-19-1.

No. 2 Half Moon Bay 6, No. 3 Sobrato 2:Half Moon Bay built a five-run lead through two innings and cruised to the final.

Clark Colucci had two hits and drove in three runs and Ian Ehrhardt had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Cougars, who improved to 19-9.

Paxton Holden pitched a complete game for HMB, allowing two runs and seven hits.

Hunter Rubbo and Dylan Brown each had two hits for Sobrato, which finished 19-9.

Division VI

No. 7 El Camino 5, No. 3 Leland 0:El Camino starter Michael McCauley carried the Colts into the title game, going the distance with three hits allowed and three strikeouts against one walk.

El Camino (23-5) got RBIs from Gabe Meriales, McCauley, Hunter Tamayo and Carlos Alcala in a balanced offensive effort.

Billy Hendricks, Cole Canter and Sebastian Camacho each had a hit for Leland (20-8).

No. 4 Pacific Grove 11, No. 1 Gunn 2: The seedings were misleading as Pacific Grove hammered Gunn to earn a date with El Camino for the title on Saturday at Excite Ballpark.

The Breakers (16-12-1) got three RBIs from Brody Edmonds, two from Grady Burczynski and one from four others.

Cristopher Torres drove in two runs for Gunn, which finished 17-12.
