Gabriela Jaquez Injury Update: Chicago Sky Announce Final Status of Rookie Guard
Rookie guard Gabriela Jaquez has been great for the Chicago Sky to start the season. In six games played, she has averaged 11.5 points on 42.9% shooting, along with 5.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals.
Jaquez's best game so far came on May 17 against the Minnesota Lynx, when she dropped a career-high 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting, on top of eight rebounds, one assist and one steal. She led Chicago to an 86-79 win.
Unfortunately for Jaquez, she is set to miss the first game of her professional career as the Sky face the new WNBA team, the Toronto Tempo, on Wednesday.
Why Is Gabriela Jaquez Not Playing Today?
Jaquez has been officially ruled out for the Sky-Tempo game due to a left knee injury. The team announced the decision on its injury report submitted to the WNBA ahead of the showdown.
It is unknown how Jaquez sustained the injury. The Sky didn't provide an explanation regarding the nature and severity of her injury or details on when it occurred.
Jaquez still suited up for Chicago in their most recent game against the Lynx last week. She played 23 minutes in the contest but struggled, recording just seven points, four rebounds and two steals.
Chicago Sky's Injuries Pile Up
With Jaquez sidelined, the Sky have four players ruled out against the Tempo. Aside from Courtney Vandersloot and DiJonai Carrington, who have yet to play this 2026 due to injuries, Chicago is also missing Rickea Jackson.
Jackson suffered a torn ACL in the Sky's fourth game of the season and has been sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.
At 3-3 so far, and with the injury bug biting them, the Sky really need the rest of the team to step up in order to avoid falling in the standings.
