Giants' Logan Webb to face Rockies on Friday after stay on IL
The team could have opted to have Webb go Wednesday in the series finale against Arizona but, manager Tony Vitello said, it was more important to get their Opening Day starter back into the flow of things after missing more than two weeks while on the injured list because of right knee bursitis.
"This makes everything a little bit better for a bunch of different reasons, but mainly centered on his routine and what he needed to do," Vitello said.
With Webb going Friday, Trevor McDonald will get one more start before the Giants have to make a decision on what to do with him next: McDonald's first three outings were terrific; he allowed five runs in 19 innings and he struck out 17 and walked only three.
He had a glitch his last time out, allowing seven runs in the White Sox's nine-run fourth inning Friday, so Wednesday will be a chance to make a case for remaining on the roster, potentially in the bullpen. The Giants, though, might want to keep McDonald as sharp as possible at Triple-A Sacramento for the next time they need another starter.

Giants' miseries vs. Diamondbacks extended as early runs not enough
The San Francisco Giants took the lead on Rafael Devers' fourth-inning double, but the offense went AWOL from that point as the Diamondbacks rallied Monday to win the series opener at Oracle Park.
Ask the Giants: What would your job have been if not for baseball?
What might SF Giants players have pursued had their baseball dreams not panned out? A surprising group of answers didn't involve coaching, broadcasting or golf.
Vitello said last week that the Giants would consider a six-man rotation because they try to examine all options, but that seems an unlikely proposition.
Webb is 11-3 with a 2.97 ERA lifetime against the Rockies, including 4-2 with a 4.37 ERA at Colorado.
Jung Hoo Lee update: Right fielder Jung Hoo Lee (back) started baseball activity Tuesday and will continue Wednesday, making him a potential option to come off the IL at Colorado. Lee "hopefully will be ready this weekend," Vitello said.
Another outfielder, Jared Oliva (hamate fracture surgery), took batting practice Tuesday and will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento this weekend.
St. Ignatius player on hand: Archer Horn, a shortstop from St. Ignatius who has committed to Stanford, was on the field at Oracle Park with his family before Tuesday's game and spent 20 minutes chatting with Vitello.
According to MaxPreps, Horn hit .406 this season with a .576 on-base percentage and hit six homers in 69 at-bats with 11 stolen bases. He also is a pitcher whose fastball has registered 94 mph, according to Perfect Game. He's considered a potential first-round draft pick.
Another local player with a Stanford commitment, De La Salle's Tyler Spangler, is also expected to be on the Giants' radar. Spangler, a shortstop who has drawn comparisons to Corey Seager, was the Chronicle's All-Metro Player of the Year last year; he has been out this season with a knee injury, but still is a potential first-rounder.
The Giants have the fourth and 29th picks in the first round. The draft is July 11-12.
