Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) girls Athlete of the Week poll.
For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.
This week, we consider performances from May 18-23.
Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Vote as many times as you'd like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.
Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.
Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com.
We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.
We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

On to the nominees:
Essence Anderson-Brown, James Logan track and field:The senior won the 100 (11.56) and 200 meters (23.87) at the NCS Meet of Champions, advancing to the state meet in both events.
Kaylee Cross, Los Gatos track and field: Cross won the 200 (24.72) and 400 meters (54.47) at the CCS championship meet on Saturday, also running the second leg of Los Gatos' winning 4×400 relay.
Alanna Clincy, Willow Glen softball:Clincy pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out 15 batters in Willow Glen's CCS Open Division quarterfinal win over Palma. She gave up one hit and two walks.
Mia DeMartini, Hillsdale softball: The Nevada-bound senior drove in five runs on four hits, including a home run and double, as Hillsdale beat Wilcox 12-2 in the CCS.
Ashley Herman, Northgate softball:Herman pitched a complete game and drove in three runs as Northgate beat Vintage 4-2 in the NCS Division II quarterfinals. She doubled, hit a home run and struck out 13 batters in the circle.
Daniela Hughes, Los Altos track and field: Hughes won the 100-meter hurdles (14.16) and the triple jump (41-6 ½) and placed second in the 100 meters and long jump at the CCS championship meet.
Julia Lambert, Alameda softball:The junior pitched a no-hitter in Alameda's NCS Division I quarterfinal win over California, striking out nine batters against three walks. She also went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double, single and RBI.
Gia Ryan, San Ramon Valley softball: Ryan, a sophomore, drove in three runs with a triple and home run to lead SRV to a 6-3 win over American Canyon in the NCS Division I quarterfinals.
Aliyah Scheller, San Mateo softball: Scheller drove in all four of San Mateo's runs in the Bearcats' 4-1 win over Aragon in the CCS Division I quarterfinals, hitting a three-run homer and an RBI single.
Nichaela West, Alhambra softball:West had the winning two-run single for Alhambra in extra innings and drove in four runs overall as the Bulldogs beat Bishop O'Dowd 9-7 in the NCS Division II quarterfinals. She added two hits and three RBIs in a round of 16 win over San Leandro.
Gianna Willes, Livermore softball: The junior hit a three-run double and solo HR as Livermore beat Liberty 6-2 in the NCS Division I quarterfinals.
Savannah Wilson, College Park softball: Wilson pitched a complete-game shutout in College Park's 1-0 win over Castro Valley in the NCS quarterfinals, striking out three batters and allowing four hits with one walk. She threw another complete game in the round of 16 against Heritage, striking out seven batters and allowing two earned runs.
