Vanden High softball falls to Destiny Christian in championship

May 23-The Vanden High softball couldn't quite get the repeat performance it was looking for on Saturday morning in Sacramento.

Destiny Christian, however, got the one it was seeking.

For the second time this season Destiny Christian defeated Vanden 4-1 to stop the Vikings from repeating as Sac-Joaquin Section champions and avoid being the second team to have its 27-game winning streak snapped this week.

Destiny Christian is now 28-0 and is the Division II champ.

Vanden tied the game 1-1 in the third on a solo home run by Niayli Calvo, but Destiny Christian came back with two runs in the bottom of that frame and then added another run in the bottom of the fourth for insurance.

Calvo's home run was the lone hit for Vanden. The Vikings' Kendyll Childers was also solid on the mound, giving up just three earned runs while striking out seven.

Vanden finishes with an overall record of 17-6, unless the Vikings are selected to play in the NorCals tournament next week. Brackets are released on Sunday.
