Pistons Could Target Speedy Talent to Help Cade Cunningham

The Detroit Pistons were eliminated from the NBA playoffs in a heartbreaking Game 7 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, 125-94, during Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

For a franchise that’s struggled for so long, they can absolutely be proud of their past two years of winning records and playoff runs. But, they’re a franchise that’s hungry for more. So, the Pistons are taking the upcoming NBA draft seriously.

On Wednesday, May 20, Isaac Trotter of CBS Sports released a mock, naming his picks after the Combine. “Beyond the measurements and testing, the conversations behind the scenes provide an illuminating look at where some of the top NBA Draft prospects are trending,” he states in the piece.

For the Pistons, he links them to point guard Ebuka Okorie out of Stanford.

“Think of the speed that Detroit could add to the holster by drafting Okorie,” he states in the piece. “The Stanford product has ridiculous end-to-end velocity, and he can stop on a dime to send defenders careening into the abyss. Okorie shot over 35% from 3-point range on high volume, but his ability to knife to the rim over and over again while playing clean basketball can feed families.”

My Analysis: Ebuka Okorie as Cade Cunningham Help

Okorie is a bit undersized for the position at just under 6-foot-2 without shoes, but his long wingspan helps him finish around bigger defenders. He could also take some pressure off Cade Cunningham by giving the offense another ball-handler and playmaker to work with.
