Jesus Sanchez Injury Update: Blue Jays Make Announcement After Yankees Game
The Toronto Blue Jays took down the New York Yankees, 2-1, on Wednesday to get back into the series against their American League East rivals after losing the first two games. A two-run seventh inning was all Toronto needed to earn the one-run victory.
Despite the win, the Blue Jays may have been dealt a significant blow, as right fielder Jesus Sanchez was removed from the game in the bottom of the seventh. He dove for a fly ball off the bat of Yankees first basemanPaul Goldschmidt and was in some discomfort. Toronto manager John Schneider replaced him in the outfield with Myles Straw.
Sanchez has been a staple in the Blue Jays' lineup all season, and having him on the shelf would be a big loss for Toronto.
Before he was taken out of Wednesday's game, Sanchez was having a great day at the plate, as he reached base all three times he came up, going 2-for-2 with a walk.
After the game, Schneider spoke on Sanchez's condition and why he was taken out of the game after the diving attempt in shallow right field.
"Jesus Sanchez got winded when he hit the ground, said Schneider," according to Sportsnet reporter Shi Davidi. "He'll be reassessed tomorrow."

Sanchez is playing in his first season with the defending American League champion Blue Jays in 2026. He has played 48 games for Toronto, slashing .277/.316/.426 with five home runs and 21 RBIs.
If Sanchez is forced to miss time with this injury, it would be a big blow for a Toronto team that has been riddled with injuries all year. Players like catcher Alejandro Kirk, right fielder Addison Barger, starting pitcher Shane Bieber and many others are already on the Blue Jays' injury list.
Toronto will likely be without Sanchez as it looks to tie the four-game series against the Yankees on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on MLB Network.
