SF Giants' Jung Hoo Lee, Willy Adames exits game vs. Diamondbacks due to injury

PHOENIX - Right fielder Jung Hoo Lee and shortstop Willy Adames each exited Monday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, which ended in a 12-2 blowout loss, due to respective injuries.

Lee exited the game after two at-bats due to back spasms, while Adames left the game after a ground ball hit his thumb.

Manager Tony Vitello said postgame that Lee likely won’t play on Tuesday. Regarding Adames, the team will evaluate Adames before Tuesday’s game and determine whether he’s fit to play.

Lee, batting leadoff, went 1-for-2 with a single against the Diamondbacks’ Zac Gallen before exiting the ballgame. Outfielder Will Brennan, who was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, replaced Lee before the bottom of the fourth inning.

Adames, who hit his fourth homer in the second inning, committed a fielding error in the bottom of the fifth on a grounder that hit his thumb. Following the error, Adames could be seen shaking his hand.

Rookie Jesús Rodríguez pinch-hit for Adames in the top of the sixth, then stayed in the game and played left field. Casey Schmitt, who was making his first career start in left field, moved to shortstop.

“The ball was real well struck,” Vitello said. “He doesn’t see it because it’s in front of the runner. Jumped up on him and just nicked his thumb. But when I say nicked, it’s a baseball and it was hit whatever the velocity it was you guys got.”
