Santiago swimmer Charlotte Milkie finishes second at CIF State Championships

Santiago junior Charlotte Milkie collected the second CIF State silver medal of her career, as she finished second in the 200-yard freestyle Saturday morning at this season’s championship meet at Clovis West High School in Fresno.

Milkie posted a time of 1 minute, 47.96 seconds in the girls 200 freestyle final, her top time at the high school level and about 1 1/2 seconds off her personal best. Milkie had a slight lead at the halfway point of the race, but McKinley Scobie of Pleasanton Foothill finished strong and posted the winning time of 1:47.42.

It marks the second straight year Milkie has placed second in the 200 freestyle at the CIF State finals. Milkie, who has committed to USC, also advanced to the second day in the 500 freestyle and finished 18th with a time of 5:03.02.

Riverside Poly’s Ava DeAnda capped her outstanding high school career with a fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle (23.03). Over four years with the Bears, the Cal-bound DeAnda won four CIF Southern Section titles and three more at state meets.

DeAnda’s twin brother, Dashiell, advanced to championship finals in two races. He finished fourth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:25.44 and was seventh in the 200 freestyle at 1:37.90. DeAnda, who has signed with UC San Diego, registered a personal-best time of 4:25.17 on Friday in his 500 freestyle preliminary heat.

Damien’s Ryder Davis had a pair of top 10 finishes Saturday. He placed eighth in the 100 butterfly (48.33) and 10th in the 100 backstroke (49.55).

Murrieta Valley’s Kaylee Richmond advanced to the second day in two events. She was 14th in the 50 freestyle (23.59) and 15th in the 100 freestyle (51.83).

Santiago’s Brooke DeMarco finished 12th in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.38), while King’s Alyssa Bian placed 13th in the 100 butterfly.

Three Inland divers posted top 10 finishes in their respective competitions.

Jacqueline Chen of San Dimas placed fifth in the girls competition Thursday with 453.55 points. She finished third at last year’s state championship meet. Chen’s sister Barbara was ninth in the girls standings with 426.70 points.

Diamond Bar’s Marc Huang was eighth in the boys final with 442.10 points.
